Body Positivity & Fat Liberation: A Panel Discussion
Sunday, Oct 7th - 4-5:30PM
Part of Cake Plus-Size Resale’s Birthday Weekend
ONLINE TICKETS HAVE CLOSED.
We’ll have plenty of space at the door for more folks to join us! Just come!
Body positivity as a movement has been life-changing for many of us: we have learned to accept our bodies as they are, feel more comfortable in our own skin, and embraced our own definitions what’s beautiful. But there are times when the body positive movement falls short: when we fail to recognize systemic factors that keep folks disadvantaged, when we exchange society’s oppressive standards of beauty for an equally oppressive standard of “health”, or when we center folks who most closely conform to “worthy” as defined by the cultural elite. At this special event, we’ll bring together a vibrant group of panelists living in larger bodies to discuss the difference between body positivity and fat liberation. We’ll look at ways to embrace our bodies but also move beyond that to issues of justice that affirm our individual humanity. You won’t want to miss this rich discussion.
Our panelists include a fantastic group of local body positive folks excited to chat about fat liberation. The panel will be moderated by Amber Karnes, Founder of Body Positive Yoga.
Reserve your space with a pay-what-you-can ticket (which range from $0-10). You can join us in person at Cake (well, actually two doors down!) or purchase a virtual ticket to watch a private Facebook live stream of the event. Space is limited for in-person tickets.
The event space is wheelchair accessible and plenty of fat-friendly seating is available. (Please note that the only restroom available for this event is inside of Cake. To access Cake, there is a two inch step up which makes it inaccessible for most motorized chairs or scooters.)
You’re welcome to us us early to browse and shop at Cake before the panel begins!
