Cake Plus-Size Resale is looking for a new team member! We're hiring a part-time Shop Associate for approximately 10-15 hours per week.

We are looking for folks who can help us embody our shop values as we continue to create a transformative space for our incredible fat community.

Scheduling Needs - Our current scheduling priorities are:

• Regular availability Friday and Saturdays (between noon-7pm). 

• Additional availability on Mondays and Sundays is a plus and may lead to additional shifts.

If you are not available on Fridays and Saturdays, please do not apply. (We know that can be tough to hear, but it's not a good use of anyone's time…. including yours!) 

Priority will be given to applicants who:

• Have an understanding of  plus-size fashion. You're familiar with plus-size brands, sizing, fit, and the nuances of shopping for plus-size clothing.

• Have a strong sense of style. You enjoy fashion, styling, and can craft outfits. 

• Understand Instagram. You're comfortable creating stories, taking photos and videos, and responding to DMs. 

We’re also looking for applicants who:

• Work well independently and as part of a team. You're happy collaborating with coworkers and comfortable opening or closing the shop on your own once trained.

• Are humble and curious. You enjoy learning how things are done, ask thoughtful questions, and recognize that understanding existing systems comes before reinventing them.

• Value both the fun and the fundamentals. You're excited about the customer-facing moments, but you also take pride in the behind-the-scenes work needed to make experiences possible (like tagging and hanging clothing, cleaning, organizing, and all things needed to keeping the shop running smoothly).

Shop Associates focus on:

Our customer experience: engaging with customers in-store, over the phone, and virtually (social media and sometimes via website and/or email).

Maintaining a chic, organized sales floor: hanging and organizing clothing and accessories, light cleaning, dressing mannequins/displays, and tidying as needed.

Sales Transactions + Operating the register: operating our register/computer, managing transactions and handling cash, credit cards, gift cards, and customer store credit accounts, and tracking or managing invoicing/social media sales.  

Opening + closing duties: opening or closing the shop, completing opening or closing lists, securing the building, and maintaining safe possession of a shop key.

Buying + Inventorying: Gaining familiarity with plus-size brands, fielding questions about the buying process, inventorying clothing in our system (making tags), tagging and hanging merchandise. (Currently Shop Associates are not buyers. Though, there may be potential to learn our buying process with time.)

Maintaining an active shop presence on social media: regular posting to the Instagram story, responding to messages via social media, getting creative with Instagram posts, and possibly additional social media responsibilities.

Staffing events + sale days: working major Cake events and sale days! These can include the Fat Splash pool parties, neighborhood garage sale day in May, birthday weekend sale in October, Small Business Saturday, and hopefully more.

Compensation:

• Hourly wage for Shop Associates starts at $16.50/hr.

• Monthly clothing allowance to buy clothes at Cake.

• Modest PTO/sick/safe time accrual in line with state/city guidelines.
  

Advancement opportunities:

• Eligible for raises twice a year at employee review.

• Possible increased hours and promotion opportunities as our shop needs evolve.

Required:

• You must be at least 18 years old.

• You must be willing to honor Cake’s commitment to body positivity, fat liberation, and social justice.

• You must have regular availability on Friday and Saturdays from 12-7pm.

• Ability to wear a mask for a full shift and thoughtfulness around Covid and health precautions.
